Oh what a week

Chase has decided that sleeping during the day is not essential... mommy disagrees. For anyone that has been around a baby, you know they usually win. Enter our week. I haven't figured out why exactly he won't sleep... gas, sleeping with one arm out of the swaddler, sheer will to not miss anything... I am still guessing. I am leaning towards very bad gas but I am running out of remedies. I have 2 more tricks to employ... wish me luck.

About the space bags... I have mixed feelings about them. Yes, they do compress the clothing and I would imagine that in the long run, there is some space saving happening. However, I bought 2 'medium' size (rather small if you ask me ;~) bags for $10 and I barely made a dent in Chase's newborn clothing. So by my calculations... yeah, this could cost A LOT. On the scale of should I invest... it tips to no. The space saving is not enough to off set the cost of the bags. I happen to have some plastic storage bins that will do just fine to keep our clothes and blankets safe from harm.

So Adam found this fantastic program online where you can put in the dimensions of your home, pick the furniture you have and start rearranging... without all the dragging around of the real stuff. We have been using it to decide what furniture we are going to keep in the cottage and what is going to the basement. While doing that, we figured out that we are going from 1200 sq. ft. to 400 sq. ft... now that is some extreme downsizing. On a positive note, this will definitely teach us how to live with less! We are making plans to start packing and purging this weekend!

Why am I doing this? So I can stay home for moments like this...

Just an idea but do you think he may be having intolerence or allergy issues to foods that may be causing his sleeplessness. Have you looked at his diet to see if maybe something is affecting his schedule?

anon - been there tried that! i am still nursing so i cut out dairy for 3 weeks (hardest thing ever!)... no change. as for the solids that he eats... i introduced them one at a time and he didn't show any reaction then. basically this is an age old problem with him but it just got worse this week. i still have a few more tricks to try, wish me luck!

carrie - i just love that sound... and the oooooo sounds he is making now... i just melt! i am going to love getting rid of stuff... makes the move SO much better!

I have the space savers, and I have to say... its great in theory but really, its just too much of a pain and doesn't make that much of a difference b/c its not moldable and you this hard plastic thing full of clothes just in a weird angel and the bin doesn't close... ok, so enough about my issues...

Po' chase-y poo... Sleep is essential, tell him i'll give him $$ for his naps :)

Something I did when I moved was to just use trash bags, doubled up, vaccum them down and tie them off. Then you can put several of those in the tupperware bins. It is the same space saving as the expensive bags, but for pennies. The tupperware is important, because if the trash bags rip, they'll fill with air. You could try those stretchy bags, too... I put all of my blankets and pillows in just a few bags, which REALLY helped. Good luck with the sleep schedule, and thanks for the hilarious video. Chase's getting SO big and more adorable everyday!

OMG!! He is so adoreable!! I miss my babies being that size. My favorite is the Ooooooo sound that he is learning, I could listen to that all day. Oh and that dimple he has makes me want to grab his little cheeks! :)

We're having problems with Sam right now too. I think it's because we went on vacation and that threw him off. It doesn't help that we live in a one bedroom apt. and my hubby works third and sleeps during the day. It's really challenging to find a time when I can put Sam down for a nap and not wake Nick up. We too have made sacrifices to keep me at home. God will find a way for it all to work!

I will keep you in my prayers as you wrestle with the nap thing, and the packing thing.... :)

jess- reason being there are too many creeps in the world and too much information is available on the internet to "track" us down if someone so desired... i just don't want anyone and everyone having access to our family photos and some personal information... i also had a creepy run in on facebook that truly set me over the edge on the decision to privatize our blog!

Geeze, I'd get rid of half my stuff to if I could have that every day...cutest kid ever.

May put a warm rag on his belly to help relieve gas... I know I sound awful, but I always made my kids take the same nap time every day (if possible) whether they slept or not, they stayed in bed with the door shut. Very few times did they not give in to a nap...but more importantly, I got my "MY" time and that was just as important.
